Thick and glossy, red-edged,\u00a0 obovate leaves 10-20 cm across.<\/li>\n<li>Small, brilliant magenta flowers in late winter\/early spring.<\/li>\n<li>A \u201cpig squeak\u201d noise can be made by rubbing your fingers back and forth on a leaf.<\/li>\n<li>Tough, long-lived, low-maintenance plant. Weevils can be a problem if grown with rhododendrons.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent edging or ground cover.
