{"id":74,"date":"2011-11-21T21:56:55","date_gmt":"2011-11-22T04:56:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/paulyd\/?p=74"},"modified":"2011-11-21T21:56:55","modified_gmt":"2011-11-22T04:56:55","slug":"a-lost-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/paulyd\/2011\/11\/21\/a-lost-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"A Lost Cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While surfing through Terry Lee&#8217;s Business Blog, I came across<a title=\"Occupy Wall Street- Terry Lee\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/terrylee\/2011\/10\/18\/occupy-wall-street\/\"> a post of his<\/a> that was written on the Wall Street protest movement. Terry voiced his skepticism about the entire movement, as it did not have a chosen leader or even an appointed spokesperson for that matter. Also, he argued that the conditions in America do not reflect the conditions needed for a revolution.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/paulyd\/files\/2011\/11\/occupy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-75 alignleft\" title=\"Occupy Movement in New York\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/paulyd\/files\/2011\/11\/occupy-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/paulyd\/files\/2011\/11\/occupy-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/paulyd\/files\/2011\/11\/occupy.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A month after this post went online it has become clear to me that the Occupy movement is indeed mislead and without direction. Not only has their &#8220;Manifesto of Demands&#8221; been ridiculed and called ignorant, the movement has suffered from several media debacles recently. The Occupy Vancouver movement was shut down after a<a title=\"Woman Dies due to drug overdose\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouversun.com\/news\/Ashlie+Gough+died+after+drug+overdose+Occupy+Vancouver+protest\/5703969\/story.html\"> 23-year old woman died<\/a> due to an illicit drug overdose on the Occupy campsite. This and the alleged rape of two females at the Occupy protest in New York City gave a large amount of Canadians and indeed North Americans in general the image that the Occupy movement is made up of &#8220;hippies&#8221; and<a title=\"Occupy Wall Street Loses Respect\" href=\"http:\/\/thestir.cafemom.com\/in_the_news\/127186\/occupy_wall_street_loses_respect\"> people of questionable habits<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As for myself, I am quite against this movement for <a title=\"Misguided Revolutionaries\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/paulyd\/2011\/10\/02\/30\/\">reasons I have voiced before<\/a>.
