This incorporates both the study of family in diverse contexts and the predictable ways families change<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>How can it be useful?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Knowledge on family structure and interactions is valuable in a wide range of fields, from social work, education, non-profit work, and the health-related field. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>What sociology courses can be applied?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This minor allows for the inclusion of various lower and upper-level Sociology courses, and requires SOCI 320 and 415. <a href=\"http:\/\/soci.ubc.ca\/undergraduate-program\/minor-in-family-studies\/\">More information on specific requirements can be found here.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Law and Society<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Law and Society Minor provides students an opportunity to understand law as a social phenomenon that is central to the organization of social relations and social life in specific contexts through an multidisciplinary lens. Students explore the dynamics of law and society around the world and through time by various methods and modes of analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>How can it be useful?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This program is great preparation for work or further education in a wide variety of fields including law, business, non-profits, education, health, and the public sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>What sociology courses can be applied?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">SOCI 250, 301, 310, 369, 470 as well as certain Sociology prerequisites<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For more information, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/students.arts.ubc.ca\/law-and-society-minor\/\">http:\/\/students.arts.ubc.ca\/law-and-society-minor\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Health and Society<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Examine the interaction of health, illness, and society. This minor will allow you to explore issues such as social inequalities and their impact on health, and the health care system and its effects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>How can it be useful?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Health and Society is applicable to a wide range of careers in the health-related field and beyond. This minor is also great preparation for those intending to go to med school. Med school applications now have begun to place a stronger emphasis on applicants\u2019 understanding of the social and behavioral sciences, and have even added it as a new section on the MCAT. Minoring in Healthy and Society is a valuable way to prepare yourself for success in that area. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>What sociology courses can be applied?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">SOCI 387, 444, 473, 479, 484<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For more information, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/heso.arts.ubc.ca\/\">http:\/\/heso.arts.ubc.ca\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Environment and Society<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Examine the interaction of humankind and our planet, the effects we have on it, and the political, economic and social strategies that can be employed in managing our interaction with the environment. This program focuses more prominently on the human aspect of human-environment interactions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>How can it be useful?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The environment and our effect on it is an ever increasing global issue. Knowledge on the current effects, problems, and solutions is a valuable source in todays job market, and can be applicable to a wide range of fields.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>What sociology courses can be applied?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">SOCI 360, 420<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For more information, check out<a href=\"http:\/\/students.arts.ubc.ca\/environment-and-society-minor\/\"> http:\/\/students.arts.ubc.ca\/environment-and-society-minor\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Critical Studies in Sexuality<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Critical studies in sexuality allows students to explore how all forms of sexuality from the perspective of a wide variety of disciplines, including History, English, Sociology, Visual Arts, Psychology, Education, Social Work, and Law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>How can it be useful?<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This minor will allow students to improve their skills in critical thinking and have a strong knowledge on many of the cultural issues facing todays society.
