Objectives

The goal of this project is to use GIS analysis to identify areas of PEI that could be vulnerable to flooding in the event of a storm surge or sea level rise. Global climate change, sea level rise, increasingly unpredictable weather patterns are changing the landscape of vulnerability on PEI, and this project aims to inform an open dialogue about the risks to people, buildings, and other critical infrastructure.

To categorise the risk to infrastructure, and take into account the inherent variability in climate vulnerability predictions, now and in 2100 after a 1m sea level rise I developed four evaluation scenarios:

Elevation (m) Flood risk in 2016 Flood risk in 2100
0 regular flooding likely to be underwater
1 small storm surge regular flooding
2 average storm surge small storm surge
3 large storm surge average storm surge
