You’ve now briefly considered your present state of preparedness and reviewed some of the threats that the experts suggest those in the Pacific Northwest plan for. In addition you’ve scanned through some planning pages, videos, and available planning checklists. You may have already decided that one of the checklists provided will work nicely for you.
After the close of this workshop, the following next steps will help complete your planning process:
- Go back and review the potential threats and consider those that are more of a concern to you and your family, based on your family composition, routines, and work and home locations.
- Spend some time studying the planning sites that are provided and/or seek out additional sites if possible.
- Navigate to your local community planning site to see what community-specific resources are offered.
- Check to see what planning is in place at your workplace and children’s schools if applicable.
- Choose a planning checklist resource from those provided, from another reliable source, or construct your own customized version.
- Complete the checklist steps and assemble the required supplies.
- Communicate your family plan as required.
- Practice your plan by holding an annual house evacuation to your dedicated meeting spot.
- Plan to review and update your plan at least one time per year or more often if there is a change that needs to be planned for.
- Become a community advocate by sharing what you’ve learned with others.
