Quick Update on the Morning of Election Day

with 5 comments

– Ollanta Humala criticized President Alejandro Toledo speech (broadcasted at 8:00 pm last night in all TV channels) as biased. The president speech was broadcasted repeatedly yesterday night, and it was broadcast again this morning on the state-owned Channel 7.
– Lourdes Flores has dismissed Humala criticisms.
– Pamphlet against presidential candidate Alan Garcia have been distributed in Lima this morning. Candidate Garcia has dismissed them.
– Garcia: Humala is panicking saying that he is nervous because poll results over the last week showing he has fallen 5 points. Under Peru’s election laws is prohibited to publicize polls results. Garcia is right that these polls showed a decline for Humala, but presumably Garcia should not be talking about the polls on election day.
– Channel 5 has been giving thumbnail sketches of candidates. One on Garcia reviewed his government from 1985-1990, and intoned: “He says he has learned, but he had his opportunity and did not know how to use it.”
