The Peruvian ambassador to the OAS requested permission to show a video to sustain his position.  The Venezuelan ambassador objected, and the chair sided with Venezuela over the objections of other countries including El Salvador and Canada.<br \/>\nThe event was webcast live by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oas.org\/\">OAS<\/a>.<br \/>\n<strong>May 4:<\/strong>  We have added local coverage on this issue<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>Pleito en la OEA: Por la violaci\u00f3n chavista del principio de no intervenci\u00f3n<br \/>\nCaretas 1923, 4 de amyo del 2006, pp.12-13<\/strong><br \/>\nLa violaci\u00f3n flagrante y reiterada del principio de no intervenci\u00f3n por parte de Hugo Ch\u00e1vez fue planteada por el Embajador del Per\u00fa, Fernando de la Flor, ante el Consejo Permanente de la OEA el mi\u00e9rcoles 3 de mayo. El principio de no intervenci\u00f3n establecido en el art\u00edculo 3 de la Carta de la OEA es tajante: \u201cTodo Estado tiene derecho a elegir, sin injerencias externas, su sistema pol\u00edtico, econ\u00f3mico y social, y a organizarse de la forma que m\u00e1s le convenga, y tiene el deber de no intervenir en los asuntos de otro Estado.\u201d<br \/>\nDebe tenerse presente que s\u00f3lo este a\u00f1o tendr\u00e1n lugar 12 procesos electorales en el continente, uno de los cuales ser\u00e1 el venezolano.<br \/>\nLos c\u00edrculos diplom\u00e1ticos est\u00e1n asombrados ante la desfachatez de Ch\u00e1vez, pues no se ha conocido otro caso en que un jefe de Estado haya intervenido en esa forma en un proceso electoral de otro pa\u00eds. Son asuntos demasiado serios como para tom\u00e1rselos en broma. Se sabe que varios pa\u00edses se solidarizar\u00edan con el Per\u00fa.
