\nFujimori: From Fugitive to Candidate?
\nThe arrival of former president Alberto Fujimori in Chile on November 6, 2005, has thrown Peru into turmoil. Fujimori’s allies and supporters have rallied behind their leader, arguing that that he must be allowed to run in the elections scheduled for April 2006. Anti-Fujimori marches have been organized, and protests have occurred in front of the Chilean embassy in Lima. The government insists that Fujimori must first face charges in the Peruvian courts, and is preparing documentation supporting his extradition. The Japanese government has requested Chilean authorities provide access to its detained citizen, and the Peruvian ambassador to Japan has been recalled.
\nTo take stock of the crisis, and assess its potential implications for the elections, a panel of experts has been assembled for a public round table discussion.
