{"id":31,"date":"2005-09-16T08:02:23","date_gmt":"2005-09-16T16:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/peru\/2005\/09\/16\/fujimori-got-a-peruvian-passport-in-tokyo\/"},"modified":"2010-09-28T10:08:34","modified_gmt":"2010-09-28T18:08:34","slug":"fujimori-got-a-peruvian-passport-in-tokyo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/peru\/2005\/09\/16\/fujimori-got-a-peruvian-passport-in-tokyo\/","title":{"rendered":"Fujimori got a Peruvian passport in Tokyo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<em><strong>Canciller\u00eda notifica a Jap\u00f3n sobre conducta fraudulenta de Fujimori<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.peru21.com\/P21Online\/Html\/2005-09-15\/olPolitica0370131.html\">Peru21.com<\/a><br \/>\n15 de setiembre del 2005<\/strong><br \/>\nEl Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores comunic\u00f3 hoy al Gobierno del Jap\u00f3n, a trav\u00e9s de una nota diplom\u00e1tica, el comportamiento &#8220;manifiestamente fraudulento&#8221; del ex presidente Alberto Fujimori por evidenciar que tiene nacionalidad peruana, a\u00fan cuando se ampara en la nacionalidad japonesa.<br \/>\nEn una nota de prensa, la Canciller\u00eda indica que convoc\u00f3 al embajador de Jap\u00f3n en el Per\u00fa, Hitohiro Ishida, para hacerle entrega de la nota diplom\u00e1tica donde expresa su posici\u00f3n sobre la reciente obtenci\u00f3n del pasaporte peruano del pr\u00f3fugo ex mandatario.<br \/>\nEn la misiva se remarca que Fujimori tiene una conducta &#8220;sistem\u00e1ticamente ambivalente&#8221; al reivindicar su nacionalidad peruana para pretender el ejercicio de sus derechos pol\u00edticos en el Per\u00fa, mientras que, simult\u00e1neamente, reclama su nacionalidad japonesa.<br \/>\nAsimismo, se indic\u00f3 al embajador Ishida que, &#8220;en el marco del deber de los Estados de cooperar en la lucha contra la impunidad, el Per\u00fa conf\u00eda en obtener, en breve plazo, una respuesta satisfactoria al pedido de extradici\u00f3n del se\u00f1or Alberto Fujimori&#8221;.<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/cgi-bin\/getarticle.pl5?nn20050915a2.htm\"><br \/>\nFujimori gets Peru passport, eyes return<\/a><br \/>\nCompiled from Kyodo, AP<br \/>\nThe Japan Times<br \/>\nSeptember 15, 2005<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nFugitive former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori picked up a new Peruvian passport in Tokyo on Tuesday in the latest sign he is preparing to run in his homeland&#8217;s presidential elections next April.<br \/>\nFujimori picked up the passport with his son at the Peruvian Consulate General, Consul General Hector Matallana said.<br \/>\nAfter obtaining the passport, Fujimori told a reporter for an Internet news service for Peruvians in Japan that the passport is a certificate for returning to Peru, indicating he is preparing to return ahead of the April election.<br \/>\nFujimori&#8217;s passport expired after he abandoned, and was ousted from, the presidency in November 2000 as his government crumbled amid a corruption scandal. He has been living in exile in Japan.<br \/>\nPeru&#8217;s Congress has since adopted a resolution banning him from holding public office until 2010, but Fujimori has pledged to return to seek re-election in next year&#8217;s presidential ballot.<br \/>\nPeruvian prosecutors have petitioned Japan to extradite Fujimori so he can face 22 criminal charges on allegations ranging from abuse of power and embezzlement to sanctioning a paramilitary death squad.<br \/>\nFujimori, born in Peru to Japanese immigrants, has been shielded from extradition by Japanese citizenship, granted to him after his arrival.
