Hi, my name is Peter Siegler, I am a third-year undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia studying Applied Animal Biology. I created this site as an assignment submission for my class APBI 315: Animal Welfare and the Ethics of Animal Use, for which I am to present on a topic relevant to animal welfare. On this site I will provide information on the ethical debates surrounding the practice of spaying/neutering pets. Then, I will go into a more detailed discussion of the application of sterilizing dogs and cats in preventing and managing feral populations worldwide, as well as highlight some alternatives. This is a subject I am quite passionate about because of my past experience working in spay and neuter clinics in the United States. These positions gave me the opportunity to witness firsthand the impact people can have on animals’ lives by neglecting to sterilize them. I hope by reading this site you will learn something new about the global issues related to spaying and neutering, and come to understand the importance of these procedures.
