Introduction to the Philosophy of Educational Technology

Welcome to our DLG.  Before we get going we want to make you aware that this site is only for dissemination of information and all discussions are to take place through the Vista discussion area (comments for this blog have been disabled).  Please work your way through the material hosted on this site using the links below or the page links at the top of the page.  We hope you enjoy this module.  One word of advice is to take your time when working through the Heidegger reading as it can be quite difficult to understand.  That said, once you begin to understand his ideas you will realize how pertinent they are to our society and careers.

As you work through this module we would like you to follow this order:

  1. Readings/Summary of Readings
  2. Keywords
  3. Martin Heidegger Background
  4. Vista Discussion 1: Enframing
  5. Vista Discussion 2: Technological Determinism
  6. Conclusion

We will be posing several questions to be answered in Vista.  Some of these questions will be directly related to the readings while others will be related to the ideas that these reading introduce.  We do not expect you to answer every question but encourage you to join in the discussion wherever you feel you have something to add.

Other Useful Resources:

Although not a required reading the linked resource below (from the University of Hawaii) helps break down the Heidegger reading and the Guide makes a great reading companion for this article.
