Amazing! Here is a short story from BBC that mentions that: “Most UK adults are so unwilling to exercise that not even the threat of an early death is enough to get them off the sofa”
Some quotes:
Only 38% of people questioned by YouGov said they would do more exercise if their life depended on it.
And British Heart Foundation figures show only a third of people manage to do enough exercise to achieve the minimum recommended amount.
It is very interesting to read this story in Vancouver, where it seems that people exercise at least twice a day 🙂

In July 1, 2007 issue of American Family Physician, there was a short “Cochrane brief” piece on – “Exercise for Older Patients Who Are Acutely Hospitalized”
Cochrane Briefs from the American Family Physician are excellent, short, clinically-oriented articles that discuss a recent Cochrane review about a specific topic.

As many PABC folks already know, now we have access to numerous health full text databases and full text journals , after joining the Electronic Health Library of British Columbia initiative.
Consequently, our workshops format has changed. I decided to ask you to come to one 5hrs. workshop only , which will provide you with all info you need in one package.
This is a combined 5 hours überworkshop that will be covering the following information tools and services:
* Mastering Google for Physiotherapists (1 hour workshop)
* Mastering PubMed for Physiotherapists (1 hour workshop)
* Staying up-to-date with your practice – current awareness for health professionals (1/2 hour workshop)
* Lunch break – lunch is not provided – 1 hour
* eHLbc resources: CINAHL, Evidence Based Medicine Reviews (EBMR), PsychINFO, PsychARTICLES, SPORTDiscus, and more (1 1/2 hours workshop)
If you have already attended our Google or PubMed workshops just skip them and come to the ones you need.
All workshops will run on Saturdays on UBC campus in Point Grey – since this is the only place I can book a big enough computer lab to accommodate as many physios as I can from the Lower Mainland.

Here is a very recent article from the BMC Health Services Research 2007, 7:103
The purpose of this study was to: “determine the extent to which personal characteristics and the characteristics of the social system in the workplace influence the propensity of physical therapists to adopt EBP.”
Some of the results:
There was a moderate association between desire for learning, highest degree held, practicality and nonconformity, and the propensity to adopt EBP. A negative correlation was found between age, years licensed and percentage of time in direct patient care. The findings demonstrated that the best three variables for predicting the propensity to adopt EBP in physical therapy were: desire for learning, highest degree held, and practicality.
The authors concluded that:
The study confirms there is no single factor to facilitate research evidence into day-to-day practice. Multiple practice change strategies will be needed to facilitate change in practice.
