{"id":17,"date":"2006-05-01T12:43:51","date_gmt":"2006-05-01T20:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/physio\/2006\/05\/effective-physiotherapy\/"},"modified":"2006-05-01T12:43:51","modified_gmt":"2006-05-01T20:43:51","slug":"effective-physiotherapy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/physio\/2006\/05\/effective-physiotherapy\/","title":{"rendered":"Effective Physiotherapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Right after the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcphysio.org\/app\/index.cfm?fuseaction=pabc.home\">PABC <\/a>AGM meeting last Saturday (excellent presentations by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifeisnow.ca\">Neil Pearson <\/a>and the WAD group \u2013 I will blog on these later this week \u2013 including the full presentation texts :), I just wanted to have a bit of your attention to this excellent article, written by Robert D Herbert, Chris G Maher, Anne M Moseley, and Catherine Sherrington from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fhs.usyd.edu.au\/\">School of Physiotherapy, University of Sydney<\/a>, and published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/bmj.bmjjournals.com\/\">British Medical Journal <\/a>(one of the five top medical journals) in 2001 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pubmedcentral.gov\/picrender.fcgi?artid=1121338&amp;blobtype=pdf\">BMJ, 2001 October 6; 323(7316): 788\u2013790. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The authors say that publication of randomised trials and systematic reviews in physiotherapy has increased spectacularly over the past few years. There were more than 2,700 randomised trials and systematic reviews in physiotherapy, of which more than 800 have been published since 1997 (till 2001). The evidence from the best of these trials confirms the value of some current physiotherapy practices and the ineffectiveness of others.
