The curriculum is site where the recurring question of the subject is posed, informed by centuries of critical thought and creative scholarship reconstructed through solitary study and complicated conversation. Through such study and the self-formation it affords, human beings find their way into the world. Private passion can become public service. Such reconstruction does not shed the past but it does enlarge one's capacity to accommodate its complexity. (Pinar, 2011, p. 144)
