5.i) PodShow and SIRIUS Satelight Radio

in 5. A Niche Medium for a Mass Audience

South of the boarder, Adam Curry supported the growth of podcasting through PodShow: an online media network that helped people publish and market their podcasts, podshow_logoand pointed listeners towards podcasts that suited their interests. Curry soon developed the PodShow Podcast Network, which brought together some of the world’s best podcasts under the PodShow banner.  The aim was to gain advertising dollars and increase overall listenership by branding this group of particularly good podcasts and promoting them widely.

SIRIUS Satelight RadioThe project was deemed a success when SIRIUS Satelight Radio offered Curry a daily spot on their station.  During his time slot Curry would play a selection of international podcasts, including The Daily Source Code,  interspersed with social commentary. Regular radio commercials were played throughout the broadcast and podcasters were payed for the content they contributed.  All in all it was a giant stride forward for podcasting worldwide.

Several Canadian podcasts were featured on PodShow’s SIRIUS roster, including Julien Smith’s In Over Your Head podcast and Matt and Andy Sknn’s The Skinny on Sports.
