Study Site: This project focuses on finding a suitable location in Vancouver to place memorial benches. To determine which locations are the most appropriate for benches, there are numerous types of data and general attributes that are required. Since the study area is located in the Pacific Spirit Regional Park (PSRP) (see figure 1), the polygon data of PSRP mask is required in this project. Also, the memorial benches should be placed along the trail in PSRP. The polyline data of trail will be used within the PSRP, and suitable locations of placing benches will be along the sides of the trail.
Evaluation of Multiple Criteria: Our group believes that the steep areas in the PSRP should not be considered in our study. Also, benches that close to the bus stops, schools and highly populated areas are more likely to place benches along the trails. Our group uses Dissemination Area (DA) to see which DA has higher population density. DA 1 in our project is the most populated areas, and DA 4 is the least populated areas. The level of importance of those criteria is bus stop 10%, facilities 30%, slope 30% and all DA accounts 30%. Since DA 1 is much more important and DA 4, so DA 1 accounts 50% of total DA, DA 2 accounts for 30%, DA 3 and DA 4 accounts for 15% and 5% of total DA. The equation for our Multiple Criteria Evaluation is (“MRB_faci_ras” * 0.30 + “MRB_busstop_ras”*0.10 + “MRB_school_ras” * 0.10 + “da_1_MRB_RAS” * 0.1 + “da_2_MRB_RAS” * 0.06 + “da_3_MRB_RAS” * 0.03 + “da_4_MRB_RAS” * 0.01 + “reclass_slope” * 0.3).
