MFRE Summer Program
Incoming MFRE Students should expect to attend and participate in the mandatory MFRE Summer Program from August 10 to September 10, 2026. Please allow for full-time and in-person commitment to the MFRE Summer Program.
The Summer Program is mandatory for all incoming MFRE students unless they have received an exemption from the MFRE Academic Director.
Components of the MFRE Summer Program:
- MFRE Microeconomics Theory Course Taught by FRE faculty, this intensive course refreshes the economic theory and models most relevant to your Term 1 and Term 2 courses. Before the program begins, we strongly recommend reading Chapters 1–5 of Principles of Micro Economics
- MFRE Math and Statistics Review Most MFRE courses rely on statistics and quantitative methods, so incoming students are expected to have a strong grasp of math and statistics fundamentals. This intensive course reviews the concepts most relevant to the program and gives you ongoing practice through a series of case studies. Be sure to complete the mandatory online MFRE MATH & STATS REVIEW – ONLINE (Mandatory).
- MFRE Software Tools and Applications Bootcamp This bootcamp covers data access, visualization, and coding for economic analysis in R and Python—the main programming languages used in the program. A dedicated Advanced Excel session also covers financial worksheet development, formatting, and advanced functions. Be sure to work through the mandatory DATA PREPARATORY COURSE MATERIAL – (Mandatory).
- Capstone (One Day) This event lets you synthesize and demonstrate the skills built over the summer, with a focus on the practical application of economics, math/stats, and software. You’ll also take part in sector-specific discussion panels and develop key professional skills, including networking and time management.
