The Canadian Red Cross

The Canadian Red Cross helps people in a myriad of ways both in Canada and abroad. Their mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity through volunteerism, education, and charity.

The Red Cross has a long history of helping communities get back on their feet after facing natural disaster. In Canada, they provide migrant and refugee services. They also help to reunite families separated by war and natural disasters who immigrate to Canada. The Red Cross is instrumental in training people in first aid and CPR, which provide life-saving skills as well as injury treatment and prevention strategies. Furthermore, the Canadian Red Cross offers swimming education, water safety, home-care services in Eastern Canada, health equipment loan programs and provides violence and abuse prevention programs, which promote healthier relationships and partnerships.

The Canadian Red Cross’ Malaria Appeal program delivers $7.00 insecticide dipped nets  to individuals as risk of malaria infection. Since 2003, over three million nets have been distributed through this program in Africa alone, contributing to the effort to prevent and eradicate malaria. The Malaria Appeal program emphasizes protecting children. Recent efforts have concentrated on Madagascar, Mali and Sierra Leone.
