Below is a collection of my best technical writing assignments completed in ENGL 301. Completing these assignments greatly improved my overall writing skills as well as my ability to communicate clearly and concisely, all of which are very important qualifications for software developer roles.
Definition Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to provide a parenthetical, sentence, and expanded definition for a relatively complex term. A major component in this exercise is to write for an audience that does not have any previous technical knowledge of the term. Throughout this exercise, I showcase my ability to communicate clearly in my writing and avoiding jargon when defining and describing a term. The term I chose for this assignment was “Boolean algebra”.

Formal Report Proposal
The purpose of this assignment is to investigate, analyze, and recommend feasible solutions on a problem in a specific setting which was part of our lives at one point. As a frequent transit rider at UBC, I investigated the feasibility of adding more bus stops on campus. In this report proposal, I showcase my ability to describe problems and recommend solutions in a friendly, professional and concise manner.

Peer Review of Formal Report Draft
The purpose of peer reviews are to learn to carefully analyze different aspects of technical writing documents such as content, organization, writing style, and design and give constructive feedback to peers in order to further improve their writing. I learned about the different writing styles of my peers and how to incorporate them into my own writing. Attached is a sample of a peer review I wrote regarding the formal report draft for my writing team member, Yingying. In this review, I showcase my ability of giving both positive and constructive criticism while avoiding the use of imperative words to keep a friendly tone.
