Blackberry once the only player in the then smartphone market has now nearly lost all its power in the market. There will be various reasons for this decline, the major possibility being not being able to match up with the ongoing trend. Blackberry stayed calm when competitors like Apple developed its systems and products and came out with new technologies. This lead to a massive decline in the units demanded for the Blackberry phones. I agree with Valerie that if the company could have further expanded in the market that it had a strong hold, that is, the business group, it could have still been a competitor in today’s mobile market.

If the company would have thought of staying the same with its QWERTY keypad, etc, then the company would definitely die down. With its attempts to adapt the touch screen and gaming trends, Blackberry tried to innovate but failed as there were many cheaper and better options like Samsung, Google, Motorola and Micromax available in the market.

Blackberry phones were very popular because of the ‘Blackberry Messenger’ until Whatsapp was launched their initially free service. Blackberry messenger was limited to Blackberry users but then it was also made available in the Apple App Store and other mobile devices for free. This was another brick in the grave of Blackberry.

Blackberry currently is in a very bad state and if it would have kept going with its traditional models, it would surely be having a point of difference for themselves but then it would surely not be able to innovate and adapt to the current market trends.
