Late Night Thoughts
Hello all! I was really stretching it when I decided to start this assignment this close to the deadline, but I remembered that it was supposed to be a “looser” deadline since it’s the start of the week, so prof, please forgive me 🙂
I’m Quizzy, but you can call me Qui or Izzy in the comments. My parents are Filipino, so that might explain a bit of why my name is so odd. The short story of how I got this name is that the rest of my siblings on my mom’s side also have a name starting with the letter Q! So what my mom did for me is take out a dictionary and searched through all the words that started with Q. I guess quiz and queasy stuck with her (lol sorry mom) since my name is actually pronounced like queasy instead of quiz-e.
I don’t actually read a lot of novels from romance authors, but I have quite a fixation on Japanese authors! I’ve been loving Murakami, Osamu Dazai, and especially Yukio Mishima. I actually just finished The Temple of The Golden Pavilion not too long ago for a different class… BUT I would highly recommend The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea. I guess if I had to choose an author who wrote in a romance language, it would be Albert Camus. Oh. I also NEED to mention that I have a cat named Luna <3

Anyway, enough about me. I’ve taken RMST 201 and definitely struggled when it came to the medieval era, it is too wordy, too much poetry, and too much religion. So, with this course, I am looking forward to the views of modern authors and excited to read literature that is outside my normal scope of books. I tend to stick to the same genre of philosophy, dystopian, or contemporary. However, I’ve read some amazing historical fiction novels and I can see we have many on the list so I want to fully enjoy the experience of reading. I’m worried however, that I’ll lose interest in reading because these readings are assigned for class. It usually ends up this way because I get too stressed worrying about the analytical portion of things. With the way our grades are distributed, I am hopeful that this won’t be the case and that I’ll be able to feel and indulge in them.
That’s all from me~! Thank you for reading 🙂
Hi Izzy!
Appreciate the story behind your name, my curiosity has been sated (it’s so unique and I love it, also please pet Luna on my behalf, she’s so cute). Good on you for taking RMST 201, I hope you enjoy reading the books this term–I completely understand losing passion for reading when it gets compulsory, so you’re not alone in this at all. Best of luck with your reading!
Hi Quizzy, awesome description of your name, I go to a Filipino church as its always such a happy place and good food after – of course – and names are very well thought out in Phillipines! My mum named her 3 boys after ex-boyfriends she claims, so lol parents .Enjoy and hope to learn from you
Hi Izzy! Welcome to RMST 202.
Such a nice story for a name! Thank you for the Japanesse literature recommendations. This course is mostly focus on reading and discussing so it probably would avoid the analytical aspects.
Nice meeting Luna too.
See you on Monday with Proust.
Best
Julián.
