2 things I learnt from this class.
- I am not a patient person.
- I need to be patient.
I never knew being patient is going to be a part in this course, there are countless times I got frustrates, so many nights in the lab until 10 at night stressing about the lab- but that’s all part of the learning process.
Before this class, i don’t know what GIS is all about and i certainly don’t understand why it is so important but now i get it. We live in an age where we want to digitize maps, through GIS we can create map which are “searchable”. We can ask question about the map through selecting through attribute. It can tell you trend which are previously not apparent/obvious. No one wants to look through a paper map, that’s why GIS matters!
This class taught me lots of practical things. Yes,I learnt how to colour code maps; Yes, I learnt how to to display a map out of tubular data; Yes,Ii know how to change the projection; Yes, I know how to crop and cut the area of one layer and put it onto another; Yes, I know how to get data from DataBC. But most importantly I learnt to be patient and that’s perhaps the most important thing I need to know in life. I know I am never good with computers and this GIS course is a whole-new-level. There are countless times I can’t find the button to do a specific function when it is under my nose all along! I need to be patient and look.
This class is not an easy one, but I gained more in this class than I expected.
