It would seem that creating a quiz in Moodle takes the uninitiated a few tries to get it right 😉 I created my quiz three times as I inadvertently ‘submitted’ the quiz as student twice before I discovered the ‘Preview’ button. To those with some LMS (Moodle) savvy, it is clear that trialing the quiz as a student does allow one to test the test so to speak but also locks down the ability to alter the quiz once an attempt has been submitted. I got it figured on the third creation though.
These three quizzes however did afford me the opportunity to learn about some of the inner working of Moodle and each newer version of the quiz was better than the first as a result. For instance, on the second quiz I figured out how to import questions from my test bank – Brilliant! On the third version I created a multi-page quiz where question were sectioned on pages based on the task or the readings they related too – Not bad at all.
I suspect that the more quizzes I create in Moodle the more efficient I would become and the more familiar I would also become at learning how the LMS could work to my benefit. As is the case with the first time through anything, it was a little frustrating, scary and a bit like herding cats in the dark. The second and third times through were infinitely more efficient and really solidified in my mind the benefits of LMS assessment tools.
