BC Hydro has proposed and is ready to launch its new project “Site C”, a hydroelectric generating station for the growing population of Victoria. However the location causes a problem with the launch, as there are many first nation communities around Peace River and they will be affected by this project. First Nation Chiefs and the community of Peace River are the external factor for BC Hydro and their model of building Site C.

Ethically, the government has agreed to listen to the First Nations and seems to be in their favor of refusing development of a hydroelectric dam. The relationship between aboriginals and Canadians go far back and unethically Canadians have assimilated and wrongly used the aboriginals. The First Nation community has been through a lot and will not back down again as this is their land and us Canadians are living with them. Although aboriginals are not willing to accept this project they are open to discussing smaller projects that will also create energy in a harmless way. For example they are willing to wind, solar and geothermal power but not a hydroelectric dam, as it would ruin aboriginal culture (fishing, hunting, land use). BC Hydro now should rethink their business model including the external factor of the First Nation community.
