Hello ! I am Rajeev Ruparathna, a PhD student at UBC | Okanagan campus. I am from Sri Lanka, a country with a unique hydraulic civilization that spanning back to 500 BC. I received my BSc (Engineering) from university of Moratuwa , Sri Lanka and my MASc from University of British Columbia.
I worked as a civil engineer in both public and private sectors in Sri Lanka. I got the opportunity to collaborate with the world bank to develop the integrated water resource management plan for Sri Lanka. Being an engineer of this project I was able to travel and see the ancient and modern water infrastructure of Sri Lanka, water management methods and sustainable ways of living while conserving water. Moreover, I was involved with number of organizations such as Network of Asian River Basins.
My research interests include sustainable development, project management, mitigation of climate change , infrastructure management and life cycle thinking.Working with my supervisor ( Dr. Kasun Hewage), I was able to publish several papers on various subject areas (Google Scholar).
My Ph.D. research is focused on improving the eco-performance of public buildings by optimizing the energy-GHG-lifecycle cost nexus. I am currently collaborating with several local governments in Okanagan to support their climate action plans.
