Coming across a blog by Natalie on the dilemma of Outsourcing for Entrepreneur. Outsourcing is a practise when a third-party company takes control and operates a part of the business of the that is not the company’s core, or as Natalie says ‘outsource the work they don’t love’.
Natalie, in her blog discusses about why many new entrepreneurs don’t outsource a part of their operation. To some extent I do agree with her points as entrepreneurs always want to keep the company under their control as business owners either don’t trust the contractor or believe that the owner themselves know what is best for the company. Moreover, being a new business, financial affordability issues for companies to operate in a market. Limited financing means the company cannot spend on outsourcing and much rather keep control of it all themselves. To add to this, a point made by Natalie which many of us can agree upon is the experience, due to lack of experience in the market, many entrepreneurs make it an excuse of taking out outsourcing. I would say that’s all about Business, all entrepreneurs must start from somewhere, one must take actions to succeed and overcome difficulties. That’s what business giants like Apple or Dell have done, they began from nowhere and rose up the ladder. The definition of an entrepreneur is someone who has the skills, the ability of taking risk and being a problem-solver, and that is exactly what I and many other people like Natalie believe should do, solve the problem and rather not make it an excuse to succeed.
These issues that have been highlighted are very much justifiable which Natalie has discussed, however the concept which current or future entrepreneur must understand that the outsourcing is an element which allows companies to succeed rather than losing money. The reason companies outsource is to delegate undesirable work to others to do, so a business can focus on what they do best, their core business and not have to worry about other elements of the business. To add to this, entrepreneurs have had the excuse of having limited finance in order to outsource, but the implication that must be considered is that outsourcing allows businesses to save a lot financially in the long term, allowing them to be more profitable. Natalie hired a virtual-assistance who she pays $6 an hour, but moreover has skills which Natalie lacks.
To summarize, I believe that entrepreneurs must take actions in resolving issues, rather than as Natalie says in her blog in coming up with excuses. Outsourcing, specially for new businesses can allow them to no not only minimize financially, but rather much focus on what one does best.
