{"id":6,"date":"2012-09-12T22:38:41","date_gmt":"2012-09-13T05:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ravisandhu\/?p=6"},"modified":"2012-10-08T19:30:46","modified_gmt":"2012-10-09T02:30:46","slug":"6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ravisandhu\/2012\/09\/12\/6\/","title":{"rendered":"Chevron&#8217;s Unethical Behaviour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Environmental Damage is constantly being done, and little is being done about it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"chevron.ca\">Chevron<\/a>, the second-largest oil company in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/01\/28\/the-least-ethical-compani_n_440073.html\">U.S is the third most unethical company<\/a>, according to a Swiss research company.\u00a0 Chevron like many other unethical companies have tried to cover their tracks, have hired lawyers, and try to sneak pass the law.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years of 1964 to 1990 Chevron has dumped over 1<a href=\"http:\/\/chevrontoxico.com\/about\/\">8 billion gallons of toxic waste into the Amazon Rainforest<\/a>. The toxic waste has contaminated areas in Ecuador, caused many health problems to numerous locals and has killed over 1400 individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2011 the Ecuador court ordered Chevron to pay <a href=\"http:\/\/en.mercopress.com\/2011\/02\/16\/chevron-will-appeal-8.6-billion-extortive-fine-imposed-by-ecuador-judges\">8.6<\/a> billion dollars to clean up the damage caused by the toxic waste, but the company simply ignored the request. There was no enforcement done to make them pay, and take the responsibility for these\u00a0damages, but just recently Chevron has been ordered to pay 19 billion dollars for environmental damages. \u00a0One major contribution to this payout was a petition of 60,\u00a0000 people wanting \u00a0to make a difference.\u00a0Companies like Chevron wreck ecosystems, and peoples holmes and simply get away without any\u00a0consequence, but for once action was taken.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ravisandhu\/files\/2012\/09\/Ethics-12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10\" title=\"Ethics 1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ravisandhu\/files\/2012\/09\/Ethics-12-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ravisandhu\/files\/2012\/09\/Ethics-12-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ravisandhu\/files\/2012\/09\/Ethics-12.png 376w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Dumping toxic waste, and wrecking the environment, is in my opinion, unethical, and should not be tolerated. It does not only effect the place we live, but it destroys\u00a0ecosystems\u00a0and environments of living things .
