Peek at the week: September 30-October 4th

Hello all,

Thank you all for your contribution to our school’s first fundraiser of the year! I have not heard the total yet but there were long lines for lots of yummy snacks so thank you for bringing those in!

The class has really started to come together as a community and it’s so great to see everyone getting along and supporting each other. A few caring moments that stood out to me this week was when one of our grade 3 leaders made an announcement on the PA and everyone applauded her when she returned to class. Another special moment was seeing everyone work together during our turn out at ‘Grounds Clean Up”, who would have thought picking up garbage would be so fun.

Class Pet: I am going to put this on hold as I feel like we have lots of exciting new things happening and I want to make sure we are set up for success.

Work Journals:  We started our Work Journals and it is going well! (Work Journals is what we use for the children to independently plan their days.)

Monday, September 30th: Orange Shirt Day – Please wear an Orange Shirt

Peek at the week: September 24-27th

Hello all,

We had another great week! I can tell the class is starting to come together as a group and I am enjoying seeing new friendships form. With new friendships forming comes more chatter. We, unfortunately, did spend a lot of time this week working on transitions as our voices tended to rise when we switched activities.

This week we also had the chance to meet our buddy class Div.16. This was very exciting for everyone. Together we created and performed at the assembly. I was very proud of Division 20 as they did an amazing job! and I look forward to providing this class with more opportunities to practice their public speaking and leadership skills.

Terry Fox: Please continue to collect pledges for Terry Fox. I have also sent home a sheet explaining Div 20 and 16’s fundraiser. I have attached it below if it did not make it home. If you are able to contribute something we are able to sell please sign up outside the classroom on Tuesday or write the item in your child’s agenda.

Class Pet: We will start our classroom pet rotations next week. A notice will go home about it and I  will go in alphabetical order.

Work Journals:  Next week we will continue to settle into a more traditional classroom routine. There will be a bit of a learning curve for the grade 1 students as they have not had work journal before. Please ensure you are continuing to check your child’s agenda nightly as communication regarding how this transition is going will be in there.

How to help out:

Our class and Div 16 which is our Buddy class will be hosting a Healthy Bake Sale at recess and lunch post-Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 27th.  A notice will go home with more information but please start to think if you are going to be able to send your child to school with something to sell. Last year we sold apple slices, muffins, crackers and cheese are a few examples and raised $250. This was a great activity to do alongside our buddy class!

(below was the notice that was sent home)

Hello,

Div. 20 as well as our new big buddies in Div 16 grade (6/7) Montessori, will be hosting a “Healthy Snack Sale” for the school on Friday, September 27th at recess following the school- wide Terry Fox run. We will need your help by either donating and/or volunteering to bake something for our sale.

Item we are looking but not limited to be donated are the following:

Sliced carrots, sliced celery, sliced cucumbers, Ranch Dip, sliced apples, sliced oranges, Apple sauce cups, Crackers, Cheese, Healthy Muffins, Oatmeal Cookies, Yogurt Cups/Tubes, Small plastic Zip Lock bags. *** NUT FREE PLEASE***

Our classes will be preparing and pricing these items on Thursday so all donations will need to be brought to school Thursday morning.

We feel as though this is a great way for our class to contribute to a great cause and work together as a community.

If you can support in any way please sign up outside each of our classrooms or please send an e-mail or send the item on Thursday. The sign-up sheet will be posted Tuesday. If you are able to attend the Run and or help with snack sales please let us know.

Peek at the week: September 16-20

Hello all,

What a great first week as new Division 20.  I can’t speak for everyone but I know I have enjoyed getting to know all the new students and seeing previous students share and lead by example.

Thank you to those of you that we’re able to make it to “Meet the staff”. Please return the “Student’s Family Questionaire” ASAP and if you are returning from last year please make sure you have checked yours from last year over to ensure nothing needs updating.

All documents from “Meet the staff” are attached below.

This week we focused on creating a strong classroom community.

We created a classroom promise and set September classroom goals. We also made our own catapults! Be sure to ask your child what their favourite activities were.

Terry Fox: We had our kick-off assembly this Friday, the children were sent home with fundraising pledge forms.
