By the end of this course, students will be introduced to multiple elements of writing in different applicable contexts, new strategies and techniques, encouraged to engage classmates in discussion and analysis of documents, introduced to new resources, challenged to design multiple web folios, and given increased reflection and editing prowess. We will gain skills by collaborating in teams on multiple forums throughout the semester. Much of our work will be surrounding the practice of definitions for different audiences and different types of business correspondence. We will learn to write a report proposal and create a resume throughout the semester. We will be giving feedback and creating peer reviews on necessary course projects to facilitate a critical eye for detail. UBC’s career services website will be used to design a full job application package. We will complete many iterations of our formal report, gaining insight from our peers at many stages in the process. As well, we will be creating a social networking strategy for the benefit of future endeavors.

I expect to gain the necessary skills to be proficient in any business context that may require clear communication in a number of methods. Working on the the web folios, report, resume, and social networking strategy sound very worthy areas to study and perfect. I can’t wait to take as much knowledge from this course as I can. I am excited to gain new skills by working with my classmates in open discussion and in projects. I expect the work to be very challenging, and I anticipate that my writing abilities will strengthen to the point that I am able to express myself with little difficulty and with a new gained confidence. I have a clear goal in my life and in my eyes this course will be a pillar that supports that goal.
