What Determines a Good Working Environment?

After completing class 14 on Zappos, I decided to research on the top 25 companies that provide the best working environment to its employees. Here’s the top 5 that I found.

  1. SAS Institute

What employees say:“The concept of the knowledge worker—someone who will thrive in an environment where they are empowered and their day to day worries are minimized—is alive and well here. I haven’t felt so intellectually alive in any other place I have worked.”

  2. Google
  3. NetApp
  4. Kimberly-Clark
  5. Microsoft

So now you may be thinking what makes these top five companies so great? Is it because they get the highest pays? Or is it because of the large benefits they get just for working there? As it turns out, it’s both of these things plus more! For example, within the SAS Institute, they believe by talking to employees, they can better understand them and create a friendly vibe within the company.

Also, in Google, they have a “CareerGuru” program that matches an executive in Google to an employee in order to provide guidance in the subjects of balancing one’s personal life! It’s obvious these companies care for their employees and know that by creating a fun atmosphere within a workplace, better results can be achieved. Like an employee suggests in Google, ““Though there are plenty of places in the Silicon Valley where you can make money fast, Google is a place you can call home.”
