Samsung Mocks Apple

As thousands of people wait in line for the new iPhone 5, Samsung has decided

to release an ad that that mocks consumers in buying an outdated product. The commercial compares Samsung Galaxy S3’s features against the iPhone 5 in satirical ways. It basically portrays the blindness of apple fans as they line up for a product that only changed slightly. As Samsung describes it, “the next big thing has already arrived.”

 

I picked this particular ad to blog because of its funny ways of ridiculing its competitors and also because it relates to what we had recently learned in class. By adding sarcasm in the form of insult, it allows a threat to be viewed as simply a joke.  Furthermore, it allows Samsung to embed a simple message into the consumer’s mind with the help of the humorous comments made by the actors. By pointing out the points of differences between Samsung and Apple, it allows consumers to re-think about the product they are going to buy. This marketing technique, known as product positioning, will allow consumers to reposition the brand of Samsung relative to Apple and hopefully increase market shares for the company.
