Technical Writing: Rida Irshad

The purpose of this peer review was to provide positive and constructive feedback to fellow team members. After careful examination of their definitions assignment, I highlighted first impressions of the document, offered suggestions and provided final thoughts on what was completed well and where improvements were required. Since this peer review was the first review of this course, it provided me with an opportunity to refine my skills with professional writing and on the importance of keeping the focus on constructive feedback instead of negative feedback.

Peer Review of Definitions Assignment – Olivia

The purpose of formal report proposal was to have a clear understanding of the topic of research for yourself as well as to provide background information on the importance of the chosen topic. The proposal included statement of problem, proposed solution to the problem, possible methods of research to be used and qualifications of the researcher.

The purpose for the progress report was to identify the audience for the research being conducted, significance of the report, objectives as well as method of research such as survey for primary data collection.

The success of this assignment was achieved by organizing the proposal and report in a reader friendly manner as well by having good research questions available to start collecting primary data.

Providing a memo for the proposal of the formal report allowed the instructor and reader to have a broad picture of the proposal in a quick summary. It allows the reader to know what to expect when reviewing the full proposal. The memo was also an excellent way to ensure all areas of the proposal were covered and no necessary details were missing.

The purpose of this assignment was to research and to implement best practices used for LinkedIn. This assignment provided an excellent opportunity for me to create my own LinkedIn profile and to learn more about online networking.

The purpose of this assignment was to provide feedback and recommendations to a fellow UBC student by employing the “YOU” attitude when composing emails. This assignment allowed to practice my writing skills following the YOU attitude as well as helped to note down some important tips to consider when writing a professional email.

The purpose of these letters was to compose two letters. First letter was a complaint letter followed by a response letter to the said complaint by taking on the role of the employee who is responsible for this task. The assignment included a guideline to follow to compose a letter using proper formatting for writing formal letters. Having experience in writing online letters such as emails, this assignment helped me enhance my writing skills and refresh my memory of composing a letter.

The purpose of this review was to provide constructive feedback while exercising “YOU” attitude throughout the review for a fellow team member. Review included thoughts on first impressions of the formal report draft, content, organization, style of the report, design including visuals and grammar/technical errors. Review was concluded by providing points to revise in the draft as well as some additional recommendations. Completing several other peer reviews in the past, this report was proven to be successful and required minimal corrections.
