Social Media is a flourishing sector that has become an integral part of our daily lives. The common age group using the platform are the teenagers or the young adults. Digital marketing has become very common trend where there are many companies who are promoting and broadcasting on social media websites to engage with customers. One example could be twitter; it is one of the largest dais to reach out to customers. It is so as a single post can be viewed by many customers simultaneously over a period of time.

There is an interesting blog posted on the same set of ideas, Rajiv Vyas’s Blog[iii]. It discusses about the progressing use of twitter by Southwest airlines. It talks about the increasing customer segments by posts made by the people who share their experiences. It seems to increase the brand and customer loyalty. Considering the posts made by certain consumers, the customer relations seem to be strengthening in fact, other customers are receiving positive feedback from these posts. Personally, as a consumer I would read reviews online before buying something such as an airline ticket and I would base my decision on the same.

The airline would also receive feedback in a more effective manner and could improve upon the sectors the customers would like. Celebrities and their personal social media accounts are also being used to advertise company’s products such as Rodger Federer, promoted Nike’s shoes in his Facebook post.

By the process of tagging many customers are likely to be tapped by the companies as these celebrities and athletes are followed by many. They become an aspirational group fir many consumers. As certain number of people want to be like them and look up to these celebrities. Yet there are certain disadvantages of digital marketing that could have been identified in the blog. As these campaigns run to establish a stringer customer base with the consumers the follow the disadvantage of misleading certain consumers. Such as certain consumer develops a perception that to be like these famous people they need to buy these products. This puts those consumers in a venerable position but may not be ethically suitable.
The blog correctly identifies the importance of the interesting topic in today’s world and enthralls paradigm shift from traditional marketing methods to the newly evolved ones. Moreover, the growing digitalization and globalization that connects a wide diversity of people. This advertising may be using to promote a brand that is globalized and many customer segments could be reached out to by the power of a single post.
