Moodle: online course design

All effective educational technology materials have two common elements: core content and an effective delivery platform.  Nowadays,  perhaps the most common delivery platform is the use of a  Learning Management System (LMS).

There is still a healthy range of LMS options from which to choose to  create an online class space.  In addition to commercial packages many open sources solutions are available. Moodle is a popular open source that I used to design a module of a Spanish as Foreign language course to accomplish  the ETEC 565 course-assignment.

The process of designing  this course was longer than I expected, but absolutely enjoyable and rewarding. Previously to this course, I have used Moodle just to deliver content as  standard SCORM (sharable content object reference management). At this time I used all features. e.g. resources pages, assessment instruments, facilitate asynchronous communication and use synchronous technologies.

Tough, I was fully aware that like any effective pedagogy, a LMS site is first and foremost content dependent, the experience of working on this assignment with specifics technical requirements made me vividly  reassured that  technology is just a tool!  .
