Jenn L’s Golden Record Curation

Jenn’s blog is one of my favourites among the class, and her e-portfolio is also worth checking out. For Task 9, Jenn’s Golden Record Curation had about half of the same songs as mine but we approached the task in a different way. I find Jenn’s blog to be easy to navigate and very clean, but interesting enough to keep me engaged and looking through the pages. Her subtle design choices draw attention and go to show how simple design decisions can be impactful. Comparing her site to mine, I think putting some more effort into my design to make it at least not look like “just another WordPress site” would help to make it more engaging to users.

Jenn L’s Attention Economy

One other one from Jenn because I thoroughly enjoyed this one. This entertaining and well designed review of User Inyerface provides an excellent summary of the frustrations of the activity. I appreciate Jenn’s takeaways from the activity and her use of humour to make the post engaging and interesting to read. Her description and subsequent reflections are thoughtful and interesting and if I were to do it again, I would add a more in depth description of my experience doing the task.

Olivia M’s Potato Printing

I really found Olivia’s post interesting to read. Similar to me, she did the manual scripts task, however, she also decided to do the potato printing activity which provided insight into what could be learned from that experience. Her insights into the connection to the printing press and the activity

Rachel’s Emoji Story

Rachel’s Emoji story was a fun read, and thoughtfully links to Kress. It was also one of the only Emoji stories I was actually able to guess. Rachel does an excellent job of summing up her thoughts and reflections and relating the task to the readings. Rachel’s Emoji story is succinct and this helps make it easier to understand. It was smart of her to choose a movie with a fairly standard linear storyline. I chose a TV show episode mid-season, which made for a muddled and confusingly complicated story to try to explain.

Mel D’s Golden Record Curation Networks

Mel is incredibly thoughtful and comprehensive in all of her work. This Golden Record curation took a wildly different approach than mine, and her write up is worth reading as it is a fascinating and detailed overview.  Mel’s write up was very different from my own, more detailed and a greater use of images and analysis of the network data. If I did it again, I would probably approach this task in a similar way to how Mel has.

Sandra’s Brown Bag Project

I have included this link as I thought it was interesting how different Sandra’s bag was than mine. Sandra’s bag itself is externally stylish, and filled mostly with a small set of functional items and everyday essentials. My bag on the other hand is functional on the outside, and full of tools for working and note taking. The juxtaposition of our tasks illuminates the way that this task creates self and social reflection.
