Big beverage corporation is excepted to expand into tea business

In Canada, the demand for tea beverage has been rising significantly over the past few years, it is almost comparable to coffee. Back in 20 years ago, tea is not that popular among the public, especially in the baby boomer era. However, due to the change in lifestyle and health awareness, lots of people have shifted their preference to tea. In addition, the increasing immigrant from China and South Asia regions also plays a huge role on Canadian tea industry.

Starbucks, one of the largest multinational beverage corporations, had invested over 600 millions last year to acquire 300 Teavana chains store (60 stores are located in Canada). The company has big expansion plan, it forcasts to open 1,000 more Teavana locations in North America over the next 10 years. There’s lots of  reasons for coffee’s biggest player to move into the tea business. Study shows that there is a rising trend in Canadian tea consumption. According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s statistic in 2003, it proposed the demand for tea consumption would rise 40 per cent by 2020.

To comment on Brian’s post about LG shifts focus in advertising, I think LG has made a right choice.  LG certainly does not have the  power in smartphone industry like Apple and Samsung have; hence, it is good for them to focus different consumer segments. As a result, it can be the leading brand for the people who are not familiar with technology.
