Quiz Title: Macbeth Acts 1-3 Quiz

This was the first time I created a quiz in Moodle and once I got started it was quite easy.  The biggest obstacle for me was figuring out how to add questions to the quiz.  My college uses Blackboard, which requires you to make the questions as you make the quiz.  I expected Moodle to be the same.  I used a Google search to find videos on creating Moodle quizzes and soon realized I had to create the questions separately.  At first this frustrated me because it seemed like extra work; however, I soon realized the benefit of this was I would have a question bank and it would be much easier to edit quizzes and/or reuse questions in the future if I could just pull them from the bank.

Another part of the quiz creation that gave me pause was uploading an image to a question.  I knew I would have to import the image to my Moodle course first, but was unsure how to do it.  Again, I turned to a Google search to save the day and soon learned how to import files.  After this, it was a matter of choosing the image while I built a quiz question, which was quite easy.

I think the one thing I took most out of this was how video tutorials made exploring this new-to-me tool that much easier.  I have not provided many video tutorials in my online classes in the past because I felt it was too difficult and time consuming.  Now that I know how much they helped me I will reconsider video tutorials in the future, even if it is providing students with links to one already created on the web rather than making my own.  Furthermore, I will spend time in classes modeling ways to find resources, such as video tutorials, using a search browser.  My reason for this is the adult student population I work with often does not think to search the web for helpful hints and tips.

Another thing I realized was how difficult it can be to write constructive feedback for the wrong answer.  I struggled with how to provide feedback to students without just giving them the answer.  For example, for the multiple choice questions I tried to provide feedback that hinted at which one was the correct answer to have students look back over the other options.

Overall, my experience building a quiz in Moodle was good.  I feel confident I could repeat the process in the future and would be willing to try out new types of questions and assessment strategies.
