{"id":119,"date":"2021-03-07T20:52:44","date_gmt":"2021-03-08T04:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/rockstreeswater\/?p=119"},"modified":"2021-03-07T20:52:44","modified_gmt":"2021-03-08T04:52:44","slug":"midterm-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/rockstreeswater\/2021\/03\/07\/midterm-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Midterm Review"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within past EDUC courses, my understanding of &#8216;literacy&#8217;, or being &#8216;literate&#8217;, has been re-defined and expanded upon; literacy is a <a href=\"https:\/\/unesdoc.unesco.org\/ark:\/48223\/pf0000131817\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social practice<\/a>, and defines how people use reading and writing in their everyday lives. Canadian literature also has a new definition for me. Before this course, &#8216;Canadian&#8217; literature was <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/books\/louise-penny-1.4720923\" target=\"_blank\">Louise Penny<\/a>, Lucy Maud Montgomery, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/books\/wayson-choy-1.4766999\" target=\"_blank\">Wayson Choi.<\/a> But like literacy&#8217;s original understanding (skill level of reading and\/or writing), this is a narrow and incomplete canon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three blogs I have chosen are ones that have broaden my way of knowing, and have enriched my life and teaching practice.
