Best Works

Below is a selection of some of my writings. These were written for a Technical Writing course during my time at UBC and showcase some of the range of my writing skills.

Definition of Theory of Change
This project was an opportunity to learn how to write a formal definition. I used a number of strategies I learned in the course textbook to define the term ‘Theory of Change’.

Peer Review of Mitchell Prost’s Definition
Throughout our course, we learned to review our peer’s writing, both as a way of supporting each other and to learn from their work. This assignment was a good opportunity to see how these strategies to define terms were used by someone in a different academic field.

Formal Report Proposal
This is a proposal to write a report on how the Rockfish Climbing Co-op in Prince Rupert can use new engagement strategies to recruit and retain new members. While the final product of the report has a much more limited scope, this proposal was a good opportunity to think through a problem and what information needs to be gathered to find a solution for it.

Formal Report Progress Report
As stated above, the final product of the report had a much more limited scope when compared to the report proposal. The progress report was an opportunity to really reexamine the scope of the project and see what is doable within the timeline and resources at my disposal.

Complaint and Response Letter
Beyond the cathartic experience of writing this letter to AeroMexico, this project gave me an opportunity to really look at best practices for writing complaint letters and responses to these letters with a more objective eye. In previous jobs I have been tasked with responding to complaint letters from the public, so it was certainly useful to compare these best practices with my previous experience reading complaints and writing responses to them.

Peer Review of Mitchell Prost’s Application Package
This was another chance to apply my peer review skills on a bigger project. Again, it gave me the opportunity to see how someone with a different background is applying the same skills to gain a job in their field.

Peer Review of Amina-Fatima Moustaqim-Barrette’s Formal Report
This was the last peer review I wrote for the course, and certainly the most exhaustive. The length and scope of the report created new challenges and opportunities to really dig into peer review best practices.
