Specifically, I am interested in information-theoretic approaches to phonology and how this aspect of phonology influences speech processing and sound change.<\/p>\n<p>For my first qualifying paper, I have looked at how functional load of Cantonese lexical tones impact their perceived similarity in homeland and heritage Cantonese speakers. For my second qualifying paper, I incorporated a syllable representation in <a href=\"http:\/\/phonologicalcorpustools.github.io\/CorpusTools\/\"><em>Phonological CorpusTools<\/em><\/a> and implemented a phonological search function that allows users to do searches by specifying syllabic constituents.<\/p>\n<p>I am also one of the contributors to <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/PhonologicalCorpusTools\/SLP-Annotator\"><em>Sign Language Phonetic Annotator+Analyzer<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can email me at roger.lo[at]ubc.ca.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello!
