{"id":19,"date":"2012-11-09T06:12:29","date_gmt":"2012-11-09T13:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/rosajin\/?p=19"},"modified":"2012-11-13T01:13:53","modified_gmt":"2012-11-13T08:13:53","slug":"what-makes-your-startup-stay-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/rosajin\/2012\/11\/09\/what-makes-your-startup-stay-up\/","title":{"rendered":"What Helps Your Startup Stay Up ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In today&#8217;s society of global communication, constant innovation, and never-ending competition, startups are always popping up right, left, centre; but what makes a startup business successful enough to be more than just a startup, <em>what makes it stay up<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>This question was triggered by my discovery of my aunt&#8217;s own startup:\u00a0<em>Snapette,\u00a0<\/em>a mobile fashion app that (simply put) allows you to share your style with others all over the world. Despite my initial amazement and awe, I began to wonder how she and her partners had achieved this, let alone the rest of the startup world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Start-Ups\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_JSVsvp9BxWE\/TRtPiQzz56I\/AAAAAAAAAXE\/a4-vQH7lGB8\/s1600\/startups.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"373\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It probably helps when Forbes writes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/tomiogeron\/2011\/10\/13\/female-founders-of-snapette-not-your-typical-geek-entrepreneurs\/\">an article<\/a> about your company, not to mention when your company is linked to a celebrity, like their fashion advisor, actress <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wwd.com\/fashion-news\/fashion-scoops\/shop-smart-6441467\">Emma Roberts<\/a>. Or maybe the key is doing the <em>impossible<\/em> &#8211; or at least unimaginable, like the founders of <a href=\"http:\/\/urthecast.com\">Urthecast<\/a> did. Streaming live feed the world from cameras in space isn&#8217;t only unimaginable, it&#8217;s &#8220;<em>hard to reproduce.<\/em>&#8221; Learning about this Vancouver-based company at school not only opened my eyes to the different kinds of businesses that could be created, but also caused me to further examine what it was about successful entrepreneurs that allowed them to change our lives in the coolest of ways.
