Professional Growth

I am incredibly excited about my career as a teacher. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to guide my students and to in turn get them enthusiastic about learning. I am also looking forward to growing as a learner and an educator.

Learning is a continuous journey, and I am constantly striving to improve myself. I took my very first conducting class a few years before these videos were taken of me, and by reflecting and looking through past videos I can see that I have improved since then, and I can also see what I need to further improve.

This video has me conducting an instrumental ensemble, much like a secondary school band. There is a point in the piece where one of the students is uncertain about their entrance and does not come in on time (1:19), but as the conductor, I first assume it is my fault and change something in my conducting, as you will be able to see in this video.

So what are my goals as an educator?

  • Continue to improve myself by attending professional development workshops and collaborating with other professionals
  • Inspire my students to be the best they can be
  • Find fun and creative ways to motivate students and get them interested in learning
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment

There are a great number of teaching resources that are available online. We are able to collaborate with other teachers through different mediums and keep expanding on ideas that we have for our classrooms. I intend to continue to develop meaningful ways of incorporating technology into the classroom.

Uncle Ben very famously said to Peter Parker, “With great power comes great responsibility“. My responsibilty as a teacher is to teach, to nurture, to guide, and to incorporate good moral values in all of my students, in order to best equip them for their lives ahead.
