{"id":431,"date":"2006-06-22T17:41:38","date_gmt":"2006-06-23T01:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/migrator.rab.olt.ubc.ca\/ross\/2006\/06\/22\/dim-view-of-public-schools\/"},"modified":"2006-06-22T17:41:38","modified_gmt":"2006-06-23T01:41:38","slug":"dim-view-of-public-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ross\/2006\/06\/dim-view-of-public-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Dim view of public schools?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>The Chronicle of Higher Education<\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.com\/cgi-bin\/printable.cgi?article=http:\/\/chronicle.com\/daily\/2006\/06\/2006062205n.htm\">reports<\/a> that a poll by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ets.org\/portal\/site\/ets\/menuitem.c988ba0e5dd572bada20bc47c3921509\/?vgnextoid=79580699743fb010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD&amp;vgnextchannel=dd2d253b164f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD\">Educational Testing Service<\/a> (ETS) shows &#8220;Americans are increasingly worried about the quality of elementary and secondary schools and students&#8217; preparedness to compete in the global economy, and college faculty members are among the public-education system&#8217;s greatest critics.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>College professors tended to view the public schools more negatively than did Americans in general. Over all, 44 percent of Americans gave the nation&#8217;s schools a C grade, while 15 percent thought the schools deserved a D.
