I love the fact that I will get to\u00a0visualize\u00a0the\u00a0results in a way that doesn\u2019t mean clicking onto so many sites.\u00a0The analytics course is my last one and I am signed up for it in the fall.\u00a0\u00a0The evolution of my list was\u00a0an interesting process. I started out with pieces like Chuck Berry and Mozart\u2019s because I knew them well and thought they would naturally make it on my list. After spending some time listening to the selections and\u00a0spending Canada Day fighting with family over what \u201chad\u201d to make it on my list, I was left with 10 songs that sent chills down my spine and opened my mind to a more diverse world of music.\u00a011 songs was my magic number so I feel obliged to mention the Bulgarian song\u00a0\u201cIzlel\u00a0je\u00a0Delyo\u00a0Haydutin\u201d\u00a0as the bridesmaid.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe list is strictly a measure of how the music made me feel. Having played piano and song in choirs, these songs connected with me far more than those that\u00a0didn\u2019t include voice.\u00a0With out further ado and in no particular order:\r\n\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n \t<li>Bach, Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F. First Movement \u2013 Bach has\u00a0always held a special place n my heart. The children\u2019s CD \u201cWhen Bach Comes to Call\u201d, references the\u00a0Golden Record on Explorer\u2019s mission.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\r\n \t<li>Bach, The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 2, Prelude and Fugue in C, No.1. Glenn Gould, piano.\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Bach as above, and of course Glenn Gould\u2019s version is special for Canadians.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\r\n \t<li>Bach, &#8220;Gavotte en\u00a0rondeaux&#8221; from the Partita No. 3 in E major for Violin<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\r\n \t<li>Navajo Indians, Night Chant, recorded by Willard Rhodes. \u2013 This was the one that skimmed into the group\u00a0like a person catching a subway train as the doors close. I didn\u2019t realize how infecting the chant would become over time.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\r\n \t<li>Melancholy Blues,&#8221; performed by Louis Armstrong and his Hot Seven Louis Armstrong plays a free and easy style that makes your sadness feel shared. This\u00a0song speaks volumes about the movement that has gripped the planet as we begin to realize how certain segments of the population have not had a voice. While this voice has always been heard the sound is different in this day and age.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\r\n \t<li><strong>Beethoven, Fifth Symphony, First Movement<\/strong> &#8211; This song raises\u00a0music\u00a0to a level of communication\u00a0that may speak more about our world than\u00a0any written work. The ups and downs. The\u00a0crescendos. I hear\u00a0debate,\u00a0war,\u00a0stormy\u00a0weather,\u00a0and\u00a0love.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"7\">\r\n \t<li><strong>&#8220;Dark Was the Night,&#8221; written and performed by Blind Willie Johnson<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n\r\nI hear pure\u00a0meloncholy\u00a0in this piece. It\u2019s the taste of\u00a0sadness we all know but never want to talk about.\r\n\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"8\">\r\n \t<li><strong>India, raga, &#8220;Jaat\u00a0Kahan\u00a0Ho,&#8221; sung by\u00a0Surshri\u00a0Kesar Bai\u00a0Kerkar\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n\r\nMy\u00a0daughter\u2019s\u00a0recent trip to\u00a0Rajisthan\u00a0has got me interested in the music of this wonderful part of India.\r\n\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"9\">\r\n \t<li><strong>Georgian S.S.R., chorus, &#8220;Tchakrulo,&#8221; collected by Radio Moscow.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n\r\nAs a young student, I was a choir boy and my daughter also followed in my footsteps. I am always amazed by the powerful strength found in a group of voices. It feels like they are all allowing each other to sing more powerfully because of the srength in numbers. We all struggle when singing solo. It\u2019s the power of the group that makes us feel able to let it rip.\r\n\r\n \r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"10\">\r\n \t<li><strong>Australia, Aborigine songs, &#8220;Morning Star&#8221; and &#8220;Devil Bird,&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n \r\n\r\nI hear a\u00a0didgeridoo\u00a0and I\u00a0have to\u00a0stop\u00a0and bounce around like a teenager again. This song\u00a0went on to expand into other sounds and chanting voices that left a rhythmic mark on my soul.\r\n\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This was a great idea.
