November 3rd, 2017, the day it all began – the iPhone X was released1. Currently, they are being bought and sold all around the world. Thousands of customers were queuing up on the day of the launch to purchase an iPhone X for them2.

The iPhone 8 had just been launched on September 22nd, but pre-orders started being placed on September 15th3. The iPhone 8 starts at $9294 and the iPhone X is $13195. Since both these products were released at such a similar time many individuals are questioning which one is better. It solely depends on the preference of the individual. Since the iPhone X does not have a home button, it is heavily based on face recognition, whereas the iPhone 8 still has the home button. All the other applications, like the camera, are fairly similar between them. As a whole, the main difference between them is the visual aesthetic, the price and face vs. finger recognition, not anything major.6

There are multiple new features that one gets to appreciate if they were to purchase the iPhone X, like a bigger screen, an OLED display, and a glass back7. Furthermore, it provides other benefits like wireless and fast charging, but the wireless charger is sold separately8. However, these are only slight changes to the iPhone 7, and some of these changes can be seen as a negative. Firstly, the lack of a home button means the touch sensor is a lot stronger9, making the phone turn on at any time. Secondly, there are certain times where the face recognition glitches10. Thirdly, the battery life is not the greatest. Therefore, the iPhone X is evidently not the perfect iPhone11.

In my opinion, it is essential for Apple to start launching phones with features that individuals need and are struggling with at the moment. The idea of talking emoticons, and having the phone be based on face recognition is innovative, but not essential for every individual to buy their new phone. Individuals have different opinions about the new look – some like it, some do not. As seen in the graph below, share prices for Apple have just been falling, and I believe the key issue is because they are inventing phones that are quite similar to the last, or slightly better. They need to come up with something extremely different, like having a phone that has holographic programming built in it.
