The conclusion portion of a scientific report evaluates the scientific investigation in terms of strengths and weaknesses. The original hypothesis is either accepted or rejected and suggestions for further inquiry or research is also described in the conclusion portion.

In Closing: What I have gained from my MET experience:
A far greater understanding of the many ways digital technologies may be integrated into different educational settings, and awareness of the associated challenges as well as potential benefits.

  • Effective time-management skills
  • Greater confidence in my ability to communicate ideas effectively
  • The ability to critically analyze educational research papers, do literature reviews and write research proposals
  • Insight into the complex relationship of technology, culture, and social change
  • Experience working with a range of media for the design of educational materials
  • Through participation in group projects, I have gained the ability to work with a range of people with different backgrounds, skills, and temperaments, to plan and carry out complex, multi-stage projects. (This includes overcoming disagreements, and taking on a leadership role when necessary.)
  • Through participation in discussion forums, I have learned much from the diverse experiences of my classmates. For example, I have learned many classroom activities and teaching strategies (with and without the aid of digital technology) and gained an understanding of the responsibilities and challenges facing educators in a wide range of educational levels and situations.
  • Perhaps most of all, I have strengthened my confidence and will to keep on learning and growing.

What the Future holds?
As I have completed my journey through the MET program and have acquired new knowledge, pedagogy and skills, the program has open up many opportunities for me in the future.  After taking some time to decompress and relax from the journey, a few goals I have for the future include:

  • Continue using Project Based Learning and constructive learning techniques in my classroom.  As with ETEC 565A, I hope to set some rough guidelines for my students and let them chart their own learning experiences.  I have started this in my Desktop Publishing class and will have an opportunity to do this with my Information Technology class next semester.
  • Finish and present my Graduation Transitions 12 Moodle site to the Mission Public School District’s review panel for approval in Mission Secondary.  It is my plan to offer this course throughout the district.
  • Continue the work that I proposed in ETEC 511, Reducing the Gender Gap at Mission Secondary School.  My current percentage of females in my class is 42.3% (an increase for the third straight year) and using the techniques suggestion in my proposal hopefully, the percentage will reach my target rate of 50%.
  • Continue to stay active in the Masters of Education blog.  Due to the time constraints of the MET program, I haven’t had a real chance to be a very active participant in the MET Blog Community.
  • Learn the the Adobe After Effects CS4 to be able to teach it to my students next year.  This is a program that is highly sought after by students and if I can offer it, my enrolment in my classes will increase.
I hope to accomplish these goals within the next year (ending June 30th, 2011).  After this time, I will set out some new goals for myself for the upcoming 2012/2013 school year.
