{"id":35,"date":"2010-08-30T19:55:07","date_gmt":"2010-08-31T04:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/sammy\/?p=35"},"modified":"2010-08-30T19:55:07","modified_gmt":"2010-08-31T04:55:07","slug":"goodbyes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/sammy\/2010\/08\/30\/goodbyes\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodbyes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wish I could say I was a rock, that I didn&#8217;t cry often.\u00a0 Or ever.\u00a0 But the truth is I cry, a lot.\u00a0 Not like, I stubbed my toe and now I&#8217;m crying&#8230; not like that.\u00a0 Or like I&#8217;m overtly emotional and cry one minute and hysterically laugh the next&#8230; I&#8217;m balanced.\u00a0 But, you know that commercial where Michael Buble is doing a PSA for the children&#8217;s hospital&#8230; I cried during that commercial, and the one where Sarah McLachlan is talking about abused animals.\u00a0 Now, it&#8217;s not like big alligator tears and bawling, but just shedding a couple tears.<\/p>\n<p>This past two days saying goodbye to family has been like a never ending string of Canadian PSAs.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>My goodbye-ing to friends and such has been going on for a bit now&#8230; but it wasn&#8217;t as bad as saying see ya to some family.\u00a0 You see, my brother\u00a0(Chris)\u00a0and my sister in law (Britt) are two of the most important people to me in my life.\u00a0 Through everything I&#8217;ve been through, they&#8217;ve been there for me, when a lot of people weren&#8217;t.\u00a0 I knew that saying goodbye to them would be hard.\u00a0 I know that this isn&#8217;t permanent goodbyes or that I&#8217;m shipping off to &#8216;Nam or anything like that, it&#8217;s just that times are changing.\u00a0 I am no longer going to be the Sam that I was.\u00a0 I mean, I am Sam obviously.\u00a0 5&#8217;5&#8243;, blue eyes, blond hair, Gilmore Girls lovin&#8217; Sam.\u00a0 But my life is changing.\u00a0 It&#8217;s really the amount of compassion and love that people are showing me right now that&#8217;s pushing me over.\u00a0 In my family, we don&#8217;t really show our feelings for eachother that much.\u00a0 The occasional hug and what not&#8230; but nothing compared to what I&#8217;ve gotten over the past few days.\u00a0 I would rather have them do this than to not do anything.\u00a0 But it makes me cry.\u00a0 And scared.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of my emotional state is coming from stress and worrying.\u00a0 I am really nervous now that my moving date is so close.\u00a0 I know these are normal first year worries (ie.\u00a0 what if I make no friends?\u00a0 what if I can&#8217;t do it?\u00a0 what if university is too much for me?\u00a0 what if I don&#8217;t adjust?
