Here in contains some of my best work this semester for ENGL 301 Technical Writing at the University of British Columbia. This course was taught strictly online and it was a fantastic learning experience. I am excited to show four of my assignments that I feel demonstrate my technical writing skills.
This was one of the first assignments for ENGL 301. We were instructed to make multiple definitions of a term we are familiar with but one which the general public may not fully understand. I decided to define ‘Cartography’ as it pertains to my area of study, Geographic Information Science.
This is my formal report proposal. I decided to advocate for public restrooms being installed at Skytrain and Canada Line stations in Vancouver. I believe that lacking these facilities at train stations, Translink and the City of Vancouver, have done a disservice the citizens and visitors of Vancouver. Hopefully after sending my report to those organizations that they will change their minds and install public restrooms within the next year or so.
I honestly had a great time writing this assignment. We were instructed to construct a complaint letter which detailed bad service we experienced and then write a letter providing a response to that complaint. I drew upon my history with cellular phone companies and also brought in a bit of humour from the current USA presidential elections taking place this year. Please enjoy reading over this assignment!
My peer review of one of my writing team members Formal Report Proposal. This was one of the most challenging assignments I have ever completed. I found it difficult to critique someones work while at the same time provide thoughtful comments and suggestions. That being said, this assignment did increase my appreciation for all the marking the professors and teaching assistants in the education system have to complete.
