Hi everyone :’) I have started to work at Quilts etc. as a marketing assistant. It had already passed 3 weeks!! Time flies.
So, I would like to tell you about my duties and responsibilities, also what I have accomplished so far.
Duties + Responsibilities = ACCOMPLISHED
1. Email collection campaign
Quilts etc. has regular campaign. It called ‘Email Collection Campaign’ which is having a competition to see what store(s) can collect the most email addresses from customers. My manager requested me to organize this campaign, so I wrote memo to announce ‘Spring Email Collection Campaign’ for employees. Since this campaign has been started, each store’s manager sends me collected email addresses from their customers. I arrange this by rank and put into weekly summary. And then it would be posted on Noodle (company’s web system) to announce weekly result. One of my goals is learning computer skills and I think I am doing it every day by using Outlook, Excel, etc. In addition, I am learning about how to organize event and encourage employees to sell products through this task.
Whenever I write email to store managers or co-workers, it’s difficult to write it. Because it is not just for my family or friends, but for business talk. I have to concern about form, text, grammar, even spelling. But, fortunately, I am used to writing business sentences. It’s getting better now than before.
2. Order into POS system
My former manager will be in China for 2 months. Before he left, he asked me to put customers’ online orders into POS which is managing order system. I was nervous and confused to handle this at the first time because if I did mistake, it would be huge problem. But everyday practicing makes me comfortable and now I don’t have any problem about this.
When I put online orders into POS, I have to concern about Canada’s tax system. The cost can be varied because each province has a different tax system and it applies different way. So I always bring Canada’s map and study tax system before I handle it. It helps me clearly and understandably. Through this task, I could learn about more Canada. I mean, I look up map and find where ON or SK province is, how they apply tax system..it sounds stupid, but I feel like being native! Who knows it can be helpful in the future? Also, I learned how to put orders. It’s kind of practical skill because i’m sure that manufacturer company has their own system like POS. So I think I could handle if it happens to me in my future company! It’s really helpful practical skill.
3. SNS marketing
I’m a marketing assistant and also social media coordinator. Everyday I check Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and so on. If customer commented about company or product, I read and then write a comment. I realized it is a one of methods that how to communicate with customers. Also I leave brief message such as promotion events and new product announcement. Before doing this, I should study products first, so I went to Quilts etc. store in Oakridge centre for training. The following picture is about Pinterest which is new remarkable social media. “Pinterest is a pinboard-style social photo sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, hobbies and more. Users can browse other pinboards for inspiration, ‘re-pin’ images to their own collections and/or ‘like’ photos.” (from Wikipedia) By using this effect, I have an opportunity to inform product and share with other people.
Social media, a new marketing channel, has been playing a significant role in market now. It will present the company in a strong market position when they adopt a proper social media marketing strategy. I am learning about new marketing trend now and probably can adopt it when I do in this field.
4. Uploading promotion ads
Quilts etc. has 59 stores across Canada. When they have promotion event or job posting, I have to contact with each mall’s marketing directors for posting it or I do by myself. To arrange shopping centre information makes me easy to access this task. Also I should check if our ad upload or not. Before starting promotion, it is supposed to be uploaded on each website. It means that I should meet deadline and try to contact with directors again and again. For meeting deadline, I made priority and divided time. As a result, each store could advertise our promotion like below picture.
I have only one month left doing internship. It is really helpful for my future job and so much fun with new people at local company. My duties are only small part of tasks, but it was already given to me tons of things. I am excited to get it more! :’)
