Advanced Cartography

Reflection

In GEOB 472,  I gained an understanding of the importance of and methods for making clear and understandable maps, conveying information that is meaningful and important, and maintaining data integrity through cartographic design. I used CARTO and Google MyMaps to create interactive maps, which are especially relevant as a method to display lots of information in one map and to allow the map user to customize the information they want to see. I also had the opportunity to practice and advance my use of Adobe Illustrator to produce more traditional, static maps. Overall, I learned the importance of cartography in the modern world as a meaningful way to visualize data and the ethical concerns that arise with this.
